What's Toyama About ? Tell Us About It!

Toyama Prefecture is one of the leading industrial Prefectures in Japan, and it can be found running along the coastline of the Sea of Japan. It draws a lot of visitors from both Japan and abroad, to experience the fantastic Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

The Alpine Route itself goes right through the Northern Japan Alps, and the route can be experienced however you want to experience it. You could take a cable car or a bus, or you could even stay high above the ground on a ropeway. The route itself connects Toyama City with Omachi Town in Nagano Prefecture.

Luckily, there is a lot for anyone seeking an escape into nature to do in Toyama Prefecture. The area consists of spectacular mountainous borders that offer some of the best hiking trails in the country. Hot springs can be found around the region, and it contains the only recognised glacier in Japan.

You can also dive headfirst into history in the Prefecture, as it is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site called Ecchu Gokayama Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village, which consists of a number of perfectly preserved thatched-roofed houses. This village is one of the many hidden gems that can be found in Toyama Prefecture, for any traveller that is willing to look for them.

The Tonami Yotaka Festival occurs during June annually, and the beautiful Yotaka lanterns are paraded through the streets of Toyama. The festival draws a lot of attention from both locals and travellers. Throughout history, it has been used to ask for a bountiful harvest. Animal lovers will be able to find the annual Japan Wildlife Film Festival occurring in the Prefecture too.

This Prefecture offers travellers the perfect way to see the winter world that makes Japan so special, and you should make sure that you plan your trip before visiting it. Be careful with timing, as the Alpine Route does close during certain times of the year.
